Green Duck

No, this is not a tribute to Green Gaki Duck.

The plumage of ducks, usually white, was taken by Green, last week and this week was registered of death of ducks without apparent cause.
The Boat School Association for Nature caught last week that turned green after ducks dive in Salto Grande reservoir in Americana (127 km from Sao Paulo).

The scenario is explained by pollution, common in rivers, but compounded with atypical drought this year. "The pollution is still the same, but the algae proliferate because with the drought, no water to dilute the chemical pollution," said vice-president of the association, José Roberto Basso. The situation caused alerting biologists.

Worse than change the original color of the living beings that come into contact with water taken by these micro-organisms are the health impacts. Some of these algae can produce neurotoxins and, in extreme cases, death of the animals. To man, between the effects of water intake dam are decreased movements, headache, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and intrahepatic hemorrhage.

The increase of cyanobacteria - organisms found in water - became more evident a few years ago, after the cities river above, their untreated sewage into the waters of the River Atibaia - forming the reservoir - activated their effluent treatment plants with secondary treatment.

"Today, the load of sewage discharged without treatment is 60% lower than that reached in the reservoir eight or ten years ago. "Today, the load of sewage discharged without treatment is 60% lower than that reached in the reservoir eight or ten. This bleaching of water causes a euphoric and fishermen in the surrounding population, who see them there signs of recovery of wellspring. But this is a double-edged sword, because it is exactly what is causing the proliferation of microorganisms, "says the chairman of Ship School (Barco Escola), Carlos Zappia.

Currently, the stations make only the primary and secondary treatments, remove suspended solids, which are responsible for the "browning" of water. But do not achieve tertiary treatment, which would be the removal of nutrients from water that is dumped into rivers.

Donald Duck is furious with the destruction of nature.
